Benefits of reshoring

According to a survey by MAKE UK, 75% of companies have increased the number of their British suppliers in the past two years. Here across The Shearline Group, we have noticed this trend with scores of potential customers turning to us since Brexit and the Covid pandemic in a bid to fix their supply chain weaknesses by reshoring

But what are the advantages?

Bringing back production to the UK has many benefits:

  • Shorter lead times. We offer a range of stock holding options (link to Volume Production page) including blanket orders and minimum/maximum stock holding agreements whereby parts can be called off and delivered within a matter of days.
  • Quality. The hidden cost of quality – yes, parts can sometimes be cheaper to procure overseas but when things go wrong, it can take a long time to rectify or receive replacement parts. If you have a query with a part we’ve shipped, it can be back in the factory for us to review within a day or two. There’s no need to wait 6 weeks for sea freight to reach the UK.
  • Faster communication. Something we take very seriously here at Shearline. Each customer is assigned their own account manager who will be the main point of contact throughout the order process. Our account management team liaise daily with production to ensure orders stay on track (and if, on the rare occasion, there is a delay, we’ll let you know – ‘bad news is better than no news.’ Rest assured there are no time zone delays or language barriers here!
