Engineering Assistant

We are looking for an Engineering Assistant to perform a variety of engineering tasks within our busy and exciting ShearXL Division.

Duties will include:

  • General Engineering duties including deburring, drilling, and operating equipment within the Factory environment.
  • Within your capabilities, carry out routine maintenance to equipment and machinery within your area.
  • Assist other members of your team regarding setting/operating machinery as and when necessary.
  • Carry out tasks such as emptying swarf bins, obtaining coolant for machinery and similar tasks to ensure the smooth running of the production area.
  • Ensuring finished products are packaged appropriately and ready for dispatch to the customer on time.
  • Ensure all company standards are promoted and maintained.
  • Ensure safe working practices at all times.
  • Ensure commitment and application of the company Quality, Environmental and HS Policies.
  • Help to identify ways in which processes may be improved, including reduction of set up times.
  • Carry out any other duties that may from time to time be reasonably requested to assist in the day to day running of the company.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

Quality Assistant/Inspector

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Quality Assistant or Inspector to join our Quality Assurance team, to work closely with all departments and customers to assist with the continuous improvement of our Quality standards.

Our Quality Assistant/Inspector will:

  • Assist the Quality Manager in daily operational activities and maintenance of the AS9100 quality management system.
  • Assist with internal quality audits in accordance with the AS9100 Quality Management System.
  • Promote a culture of customer focus throughout the organisation.
  • Liaise with customers on resolution of quality issues.
  • Conduct supplier quality audits and report audit findings
  • Produce quality documents as required by customer specific contracts including PSW, Certificate/Declaration of Conformity, Control Plans and statistical analysis supporting Process Capability.
  • Train production personnel in basic Quality Procedures, internal standards and Standard Operating Instructions while reinforcing the importance of them.
  • Maintain a visible product traceability record system compatible with the AS9100 Quality Management System.
  • Work with manufacturing departments to proactively resolve quality issues.
  • Work with production department supervisors and external suppliers to establish root cause of quality concerns. Ensuring robust corrective and preventative actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Monitor the quality of sub-contract product and liaising with suppliers when required.
  • Directly manage the calibration of measuring equipment and maintaining a full equipment list in support of this activity.
  • Inspect outsourced goods/services and internally produced components when required, including the use of Mitutoyo CMMs.
  • Risk assess using FMEA and application of SPC techniques including gauge R&R to assist in developing a Process Capability system.
  • Assist manufacturing in the deployment and maintenance of 5S workplace organisation.
  • Ensure safe working practices at all times in accordance with the Health and Safety policy of the company.
  • Support other functions within the Quality Assurance Department as and when required.
  • Carry out any other general duties to assist in the smooth running of the company.

About You:

  • Ideally you will come from a Manufacturing or Engineering background.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within your role.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the AS9100 standard.
  • Use of measuring equipment including gauges, handheld equipment, CMM and other metrology devices.
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel etc.
  • Ability to liaise with manufacturing teams to resolve quality issues.
  • To work with suppliers to maintain and develop the quality of sub-contract product and services.
  • Production of FMEA reports and control plans.
  • 8D problem solving and structured root cause analysis.
  • To be able to develop work instructions and visual standards.
  • The use and understanding of the internal Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) systems.
  • Knowledge and use of PC-DMIS and MSCOSMOS would be a distinct advantage.
  • Willingness to turn hand to any quality related issue that might crop up in a fast-paced working environment.

CNC Setter/Operator

Nights Only – Monday to Wednesday

Would you like to work 37½ hours over 3 Nights (Monday – Wednesday), with flexible start and finish times to suit you? If yes, then this could be your ideal role.

Due to the high volume of new motorsport/F1/Le Mans work coming through, we are looking for a skilled CNC Setter/Operator to join our business unit at ShearXL to operate a variety of milling machines.

The ideal candidate should have experience of Fanuc controls, or similar. The ability to program complex parts both at the machine or using an offline CAD system (OneCNC) would be an advantage.

You will be able to read and understand complex drawings and have a good eye for detail.

Must work well within a team and have good problem-solving ideas.

Responsibilities:

  • setting up new jobs
  • the reading and interpretation of very complex drawings
  • ability to work to very tight tolerances (microns)
  • having a good understanding of what a programme is going to do in order that equipment and parts are protected from potential damage
  • documenting the work done accurately and comprehensively

  • have served an apprenticeship or gained a high level of experience in machining
  • are willing to run multiple machines, to maximize productivity and efficiencies
  • previous experience machining castings would be an advantage
  • are confident to work on your own initiative, with minimal supervision

Paint Shop Assistant

Due to an increase in demand Shearline are looking for a Paint Shop Assistant to support our existing team and to train and develop their skills to become a skilled powder coat finisher.  Our Paint Shop team work closely together in our clean, well-lit paint shop to achieve a high degree of finish to meet our customer requirements:

Our Paint Shop Assistant will:

  • Clean parts pre paint
  • Accurately mask a variety of parts to our customer specification
  • Carefully unmask parts after painting
  • Clean parts post paint
  • Tap holes as required
  • Wrap & pack parts after painting

You will also be required to carry out other duties in the Fabrication and Assembly area, when time allows.

Business and Administration Apprenticeship

 Based on the Cambridgeshire Business Park, in Ely, we are a well-established, sub-contract Engineering Company supplying components to the aerospace, automotive, medical and hi-tech industries.

This is an exciting opportunity to complete an Apprenticeship in Business and Administration, which will give you a good basis for building your future career.

You could be working in any of the following areas;

This is an exciting opportunity in conjunction with a local College to complete an Apprenticeship in Engineering, which will give you a good basis for building your future career.

You could be working in any of the following areas;

  • Welding and Fabrication

You will be supported in your studies towards an NVQ Level 3 in Engineering, which together with the practical experience you gain, will provide you with the perfect platform for an exciting career ahead.
